Importing Playlists

This section offers some guidance to importing various playlist formats into AdLogGen.  The types currently supported are: AdLogGen Tabbed, Myriad AdLog and M3U.

AdLogGen Format
This is the format native to this software and is simply a tabbed-text file containing each playlist field: AirTime, AirTimeMS, TX-Code, Title, Length, Cart, Filename.  Depending upon the playout system, not all fields are required.

The format is as follows:

AirTime<tab>AirTimeMS<tab>TX-Code<tab>Title<tab>Length<tab>SegueMS<tab>Filename<tab>Cart

mAirList TPI
This, alongside CSV, is the standard playlist format for importing external playlists and commercial logs into mAirListDB. Providing that each advert break is formatted with the appropriate AirTime (eg: 20, 40, 58) in AdLogGen, the exports will automatically create the TPI template which mAirListDB can import using the "Update Advertising" option or automatically during a schedule-run.

mAirListDB needs to know how many "Blocks" (ie: Breaks) per hour you have, so this needs to be set in the Settings page of AdLogGen.  In the examples below, you can see that each Break has a Block Number before it.

The "Paths" export uses the actual filename of each piece of audio:

,,O,ImportTasks,MMD
00:20:00,,B,1
,,F,C:\Adverts\My Advert1.wav
,,F,C:\Adverts\My Advert2.wav
,,F,C:\Adverts\My Advert3.wav
00:40:00,,B,2
,,F,C:\Adverts\My Advert1.wav
,,F,C:\Adverts\My Advert2.wav
00:58:00,,B,3
,,F,C:\Adverts\My Advert1.wav
,,F,C:\Adverts\My Advert2.wav
,,F,C:\Adverts\My Advert3.wav

The normal TPI export uses the Cart (ExternalID in mAirList) of each piece of audio:

"00:20:00",,"B","1"
"00:20:00","N","E","12345"
"00:20:00","N","E","12345"
"00:20:00","N","E","12345"
"00:40:00",,"B","2"
"00:40:00","N","E","12345"
"00:40:00","N","E","12345"
"00:40:00","N","E","12345"
"00:58:00",,"B","3"
"00:58:00","N","E","12345"
"00:58:00","N","E","12345"
"00:58:00","N","E","12345"

"Paths" may be preferable if you're not managing Cart Numbers or if the audio is not present in mAirListDB.

Myriad AdLog
Used by Myriad Playout and Myriad Network - this type of advert log can be generated by PSquared's own "Advert Manager" or Natural Log.  AdLogGen allows you to open+save this format for easy editing of commercial logs once they've been scheduled.  It means you can manage the logs without using any special software (such as an expensive traffic/billing system).  Also, you can build advert logs from scratch.

Myriad Network continuously monitors the AdLog files, so as you edit them, your split advert feeds will automatically update to reflect any new changes.

The format is as follows:

hh:mm:ss|txtx|cart####|title-------------------------|m:ss|
00:20:00|    |12345   |XMAS SHOPPING OFFERS          |1:00|
00:20:00|    |11223   |PIZZA SHACK                   |0:30|
00:40:00|    |54321   |BOB'S TAXIS                   |0:20|
00:40:00|    |55443   |USED CAR PART EXCHANGE        |0:40|

In order for each break to work, the items MUST have a matching AirTime/BreakTime: In this example we have 2 ad-breaks, one at 20 mins past the hour and one at 40.  The Cart Numbers tell Myriad which Audiowall "cart" to play with the Title and Length are used for display purposes.  The Title is NOT updated from your Myriad Audiowall, therefore if you change the audio on your Myriad system, the title used in the AdLog will remain.  Lengths in Myriad Network are updated as a Break is loaded so if you regularly play a file that varies in duration, any error in the Length field will not matter.

A config option allows you to automatically re-read the audio durations directly from your Myriad Audiowall folder so that expected (and real) durations match.

M3U Files
You can load standard M3U playlists which can then have break markers added by you, or, you can load a pre-formatted M3U created by StationPlaylist Creator. You can drop M3U files directly into the main window for quick loading.

The following explains how to get to Creator output this type of file:

Set Creator to output a daily playlist (with no time-checking) - with the following output definitions:

Filename Format : yymdd".m3u"
Playlist Format :
%p\%f%e
Break Note Format: %t

In the Rotations window, each Ad Break needs a Break Note separator :

#MRK %2h:20:00 AD BREAK

This outputs the current hour (2-digits, and calculated during the scheduling process) plus the break minutes+seconds that you want to define, in this example it's at 20 minutes past the hour.  You can define whatever break times your station format uses so long as the format #MRK HH:MM:SS is adhered to.  Anything after, like AD BREAK or BREAK MARKER is purely for your reference as AdLogGen will add it's own text when it loads the file.

In order to get an even rotation of adverts in Creator, you can use the example below which has them as a Song Category thereby taking advantage of Artist+Title repeat rules.  If you name your adverts AD FOOD - PIZZA SHACK.wav then you can separate not only the same advert (by title) but also a similar advertiser (the artist) and avoid having 2 competing businesses playing next to each other.

The MARKER items can have a duration set which helps Creator (and the Rules) decide what items to place - and enables you to set the Rules more like songs.  It means that the scheduled time of each break will be used when deciding if a tested item breaks an Artist or Title Rule.  WARNING: If you set the 57/58 (final break) Marker and the audio carries past 59:59, the scheduled-hour will roll-over to the next and will cause a problem when exporting to a Myriad AdLog.  So, if you have 3 minutes of adverts then 55 or 56 is a safe marker postion, NOT 57/58/59!

Remember that the interval rules need to be very low, such as 1 minute for Artist and perhaps 5-10 minutes for Title - This is because our adverts are not Songs so are 10-seconds to 60-seconds in length and require a much smaller repeat interval.  These settings will vary according to your filename structure and how often you want competing/similar advertisers/businesses to appear.
