This device is used at radio stations as a means of controlling the presenter's microphone without using a traditional anglepoise/lamp arm.  The commercial units retail for over £400 but my kit of parts allows you to have one "just like the real thing" in your studio for a fraction of the cost.

This has several benefits:-

  • Reduces clutter on work-surface

  • Noise-free movement

  • Once set, never needs adjusting or tightening

  • Can be moved up and out of the way when not needed

  • Can be positioned anywhere within a 3-dimensional area

The microphone is suspended by 3 cords that are connected to 3 counter-weights which run to a corner of your studio with the Microphone acting as the "load".  Once balanced, the mic pulley will allow the presenter to move the microphone just by "picking it up" and placing it where they need it - once you have installed the pulley, it will never need adjusting (unlike a mic arm).

The complete kit contains the following parts:

  • 1x Microphone Mount
    Features a black finish - and a 3/8" thread for a standard microphone holder/shockmout

  • XLR Cable Box
Designed to be mounted to the ceiling of your studio, it houses 2 XLR connectors

  • 15m Nylon Cord
This cord attaches the microphone mount via the screw-hooks to the weights.

  • 6x Screw Hooks
These screw into your ceiling - 3 are mounted in a triangle near the presenter, the other 3 can be mounted in a corner of the studio/room

  • 3x Weight Tubes plus ball-bearing counter-weights  [click here to see an example]
Allows you to add/remove ball-bearing weights to allow the mic pulley to balance - the tubes are 32mm plastic pipe which can be supplied in their natural form or covered in your choice of Fablon (sticky-back plastic), eg: wood/beech, white, red etc enabling them to blend in with your studio walls.  The counter-weights are 28mm ball-bearings, typically 3-5 per tube depending-upon your microphone

  • XLR to XLR Coiled Lead
Connects the microphone to the Cable Box
