As uTag is just a simple
file tagger, there is little to learn - but some basic information and tips
are given below... Reading Files for
Playback
When reading files, you have 2 options
for the type of tag/format to read: 1. Reading APE, FLAC, ID3, OGG and Cart Chunk
Tags 2. Reading JockMaster
JMD Cue
Points
Audio can be loaded by using the built-in Drive/Folder/Files list
or drag'n'drop from any Windows Explorer view.
You have the option of reading APE/ID3 or
Jockmaster JMD data when selecting a file. uTag will automatically detect
the tag type from the file extension and read the data accordingly. This
means that the "Save Tag" button at the bottom of the screen will change to
reflect the file type currently in use.
By selecting the "JockMaster JMD" option, you can
read my own .jmd file data which is also used in MyLibrary. Files can be
tagged with either program although uTag only supports a limited number of JMD
fields.
When playing a file, you can left-click the progress bar and drag it to "scrub" the audio in order to move around a large file - or you can use the REF/FFWD buttons to seek the file. When you reach the point you wish to place a cue point at, just click the "Set xxx" button. The "Test" buttons will play from that cue point so that you can review the accuracy of the marker with "C" clearing the cue point.
Pressing the "Set Segue" button while playback is stopped will place a Segue marker at -50mS from the end of the file - this is ideal for quick tagging and tightly edited files like adverts/voice-tracks.
AutoCue
It
is possible for uTag to auto-cue the CueIn and Segue points using a
pre-determined threshold. This provides basic "automation ready" meta-data
so that audio tracks have good start/stop markers.
Saving to File Tags
APE
Tags
The "Save to APE" button is enabled when
you have an MP3 file open - the APE tags are compatible with StationPlaylist
Creator and therefore the Cue Markers are stored differently than the other tag
formats. If you have a CueIn set, the other cue points are relative to the
CueIn.
Example: CueIn: 00:05 Intro: 00:10 Segue: 03:00 |
APE Cues

following APE fields are supported -
with custom frames in upper-case:

CLIENTID (Cart), CUE, INTRO, HOOK, HOOKOUT, SEGUE
The ClientID APE field is useful in StationPlaylist if you wish to use the Cart Number in either the playlist output or logging. Using this method, it is possible to output a "cut number" ASCII playlist for systems like Enco DADpro32.
Cart Chunk -
Broadcast Standard for WAV Files
You can save to
the broadcast-standard Cart Chunk format when using a file with a .wav
extension.
The following Cart Chunk fields are

You can also "Send to Genesys" which will copy the WAV file to your Genesys import folder - If none is defined, you will be prompted to specify the location.
Myriad v5 XML files sit alongside your MP3/WAV audio and are used when you drop a file onto the Mediawall or use a master CSV import list (created in Excel/MyLibrary).
